Original Mono Analog from 1950: BILLIE HOLIDAY SINGS - Ed1 of Billie's Debut LP Original Mono Analog from 1950: BILLIE HOLIDAY SINGS - Ed1 of Billie's Debut LP Description Offered is the 1st Pressing of the Debut LP by the fabulous Jazz Singer Billie Holiday ("Lady Day"). Released in the early years of The Age Of Vinyl on what was the "new" 33 ⅓ RPM Vinyl Format, record manufacturers were experimenting with record speed as well as cover design. There were at least 4 variations in our offered LP. All of the tracks were initially released some years prior to 1950 on the 78 RPM Shellac format, so technically, Billie's debut LP here is a compilation. This 1st Pressing identification is made from the back cover. The 3 other variations contain the "Issued By Request" section just above the lower seam - a notification by Columbia that the tracks had been released earlier on shellac. The 1st Pressing does not have this notification (please see our Photo Gallery) : Billie Holiday Billie Holiday Sings Label : Columbia Records - CL 6129 / Original 1st Edition Pressing - Please See Below for the Deadwax Matrix es Format : 10" 33 ⅓ RPM Analog Mono Vinyl Record and Album Cover Country : United States Released : 1950 Genre : Jazz Style : Vocal THE VINYL : VERY GOOD + VG + : The LP surfaces retain much of their original gloss, with minimal spindlewear evident. Bright, undamaged, Red and Gold Columbia Records Labels. Present on both sides are some light marks, including sleevewear from the original cardboard cover and hairlines that produce some occasional background noise. There are no deep marks, and no skips or sticks in the playback. A Note About The Recording Technology: In the early 1950’s, the invention of "Long Play" Vinyl Records (33 1/3 RPM) was a new analog Mono technology that became more commercially popular than the existing 78 RPM shellac recordings. While these early Monos are Great Treasures, they can playback with what we modern music listeners call "background noise", and an occasional click or pop. Improved mono recording methods later pioneered by Rudy Van Gelder (and others), and then Stereo in late 1950, reduced this noise problem. Our grading evaluations examine the record condition as a result of use after it was manufactured. THE COVER : VERY GOOD + VG+ : Please see photos / both seams and the spine are intact / present on the front and the back cover is some age-related yellowing / minor ink writing in the upper left corner on the back cover (please see photo) / no other writing, paper loss or paper tears. We have placed the record and the cover into separate, protective plastic sleeves. Tracklist And Musicians: Please see the photos in our Gallery .
