ELLINGTON UPTOWN - Rare 2 Record Gatefold on Early Columbia Vinyl - Near Mint ELLINGTON UPTOWN - Rare 2 Record Gatefold on Early Columbia Vinyl - Near Mint Description Offered is a rare release from the early 1950's on the Columbia Label (B - 386 - 1 to 4) of Duke Ellington And His Orchestra . The fabulous Betty Roche does the vocals on Take The "A" Train. A tremendously popular musician on 78 RPM Shellac Recordings, Duke (and Columbia) were transitioning to the newer Vinyl 45 RPM technology. From the photos in our Gallery, you can see that Columbia was experimenting, not only with the idea of Gatefold Covers, but also with what would later be called "Extended Play" (EP). Quite soon following this early release - Extended Play became more than one track on a single side. Here, Columbia is calling "Columbia Extended Play" 2 records with 4 total tracks in one cover. They are lightly played with minimal spindlewear. Bright, undamaged, Red and Gold Columbia Labels (please see photos). Each of the four sides retains all of the original gloss, with some light cosmetic sleevewear from the cover and a few light marks. The records have been carefully handled. THE GATEFOLD COVER - EXCELLENT + EX+ : Please see photos / laminated / some scuffing / the number "12" and " PAID " are stamped in ink on the back cover / well-stored with some minor scuffing / bright colors / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact / no writing, paper loss, paper tears, dirt, or stains. We have placed the Records and the Gatefold Cover into separate, protective plastic sleeves.
