It features wonderful early-era jazz, with Tom Pletcher, sounding a great deal like Bix Beiderbecke. Ron Hackett does well on clarinet and on C-melody sax, the now neglected instrument played by Frankie Trumbauer on many of Bix's best recordings. Bob Haggart, who early on made his mark with Bob Crosby's Bobcats, sound great on bass. There is a era-authentic sound to all the music, especially with cornet and sax, but there is also plenty of energetic improvising on Clementine, Somebody Stole My Gal, There'll Come a Time and other tunes. These are not note-for-note transcriptions of the tunes played by Bix. These are early era-tunes joyously and energetically played by guys who love what they are doing. Early jazz, with energy, swing, and plentiful improvisation.
